On Friday, 17th October, 2014, the TOS Community Enrichment Programme organized a food distribution drive to labour camps in Sonarpur. On the occasion of the World Food Day – 2014 we collected more than 1200kg of food items which included Rice, Sugar, Cooking Oil, Pulses, and Milk Powder from the students. These were individually packed in 195 packets and taken to Sonarpur in the school bus.

The students of the sixth form then got to the process of distributing these packets to the labourers living in camps. Three camps were selected with the help Mr. Navas, a social worker in the camps, and based on the most needy. One of the camps was an abandoned camp and the labourers were in financial distress. These hard workers got some smiles when they received some necessities and daily requirement.

The learning experience for the students was far more than the real use of the items. In this process aimed at making a difference in the students outlook on life and gave them the required humility to move on to become citizens of the world. It taught them to remember that the more fortunate need to reach out to the less fortunate in their journey of life wherever they may be.

We would like to thank all the parents of the school who did their part in responding overwhelmingly to the call of the students to support the initiative by sending in the food items. We thank the teachers and the students who put in their best effort in getting the items organized and packed. Most of all the seven boys from the sixth form who came this morning to go to the camps.

“The purpose of life is not to be happy alone – but to matter, to be productive, to be useful and to have made some difference to others.”
