The Conservation Award ”For a Better Tomorrow”

The 9th cycle of the Conservation Award, ‘For a Better Tomorrow” was organized by DEWA. The Oxford School participated in this inter-school competition and was declared a winner, bagging the 3rd place among 385 schools that took part in this prestigious competition.

The school was able to clinch this award only after much hard work from students, teachers & parents in unison. The school was judged on various criteria. To be considered, we organized several activities & events as follows:

  • Assemblies were organized to create awareness among students on energy conservation
  • Students of the EM club participated in several activities like patching plants, drawing competition, monitors appointed to switch off the lights and fan etc
  • The students observed Earth Hour and Earth Day
  • DEWA pamphlets were distributed among Dubai resident students
  • Special assembly was conducted on Green Economy
  • Innovative methods of conserving water was introduced that included pressure pumps, trickle drip irrigation and these were monitored by students and conductors
  • Awareness was created among conductors to save water while washing buses
  • Parents were encouraged to participate

The culmination of all this hard work was the recognition at the Conservation Award Ceremony where dignitaries from all walks of life were present to felicitate the efforts put in by the members of the school in achieving a great feat of saving AED 47,643 just by cutting down on conservation of water, electricity and CO2 emission.

Under the able guidance of Ms. Charmane & Mr. Sunil, the EM teachers of the school, we could achieve what we set out to.

The award ceremony was a grand ceremony that had eminent dignitaries like HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO, DEWA, HE Dr. Abdulla Al Karam chairman of the Board of Directors & Director General, KHDA and HE Dr. Ahmed Aeed Al Mansouri Director of Dubai Educational Zone. The Oxford School in recognition was awarded AED 6000/-, a plaque, certificate & also an individual reward, an ipad for the EM teacher. The ceremony took place on Wednesday, May 21st, 2014 at Grand Hyatt dubai, Baniyas Grand Ballroom. It was attended by four student representatives, EM teachers and Supervisors. It was indeed a day to rember and a moment of pride while we received the award from the dignitaries with the name of the school being announced over and over again with much pride.
