Maria Conceicao was born in Portugal
and raised by an African immigrant from Angola, Maria Cristina Matos, alongside Matos’ six children.In 2005, Conceicao visited a slum and a hospital in Dhaka, which left a deep impression on her.She established the Maria Cristina Foundation, which provides education to underprivileged
children.
To raise awareness and funds for the Foundation, Conceicao summited Mount Kilimanjaro,followed by a successful trek to the North Pole. She walked a marathon on each of the seven emirates in the UAE in seven days. She is the first Portuguese woman to summit Mount Everest
and has run several ultra-marathons. She holds six Guinness World Records.
